Cover & Bookmark


Starfire's cover is done! woohoo! Quite a beautiful piece of artwork done by Kirk DuPonce at DogEared Design.
Seeing the cover really helps reinforce that this book really is coming out in just over a month!

I also took this opportunity to put together a bookmark to help in promotions. I think the design came out well, I should be getting the physical copies in hand tomorrow.

Captain's Log, Conference Date 20163007. Today was a test of endurance.  Sleep deprivation techniques by an alien mind probe woke me up far too soon, followed by a mild cold. However MedBay prescribed a sustained treatment of DayQuill and Coffee that kept me going, if somewhat in a fog.   The morning started off by attending a spiritual discussion led by the esteemed Steve Laube. New Beginnings

So opened up my working document of Downfall and am starting back at the beginning, working through what has been written and smoothing things up.  I always find that the first three chapters are the hardest to write.  I think that's because I'm still getting a feel for exactly who all the characters are and the tone that the novel is going to take.  Plus there is just soooo much foreshadowing to get done, setting up events and ideas that will pay off later. Plus with the sequel I still have a lot of world introduction to do. That combined with dropping in information to remind/inform about the last book makes for a tense balance of giving out just enough information.  Once I get those chapters just right I think the rest of the book will come much faster. As for now, here's my current first line: “The Hand of Surka has spun the shroud that envelops our world to proclaim that our return to Shenkai is near.” If you have read Starfire, what is your biggest hope for t

My Writing Corner

It's hard to believe that it's already been more than two weeks since Realm Makers 2016 ended. It's been a hectic two weeks as well. With the kids starting school and catching up on the back-log at work, my writing hasn't jumped forward quite as quickly as I had hoped. I know a big part of that was because of my "writing space", also known as that pile of junk in the corner. Yep, overly cluttered and surrounded by distractions! It also didn't help that our TV was about two feet to my left, which made it hard to focus when anyone else was playing games or watching shows on it, even if I had my headphones on.  Obviously time for a change. So I packed up the boardgames taking up the shelf-space and shifted my desk so I'd be facing away from the TV.  It's also nice to have some clear space on the desktop now to use for notes or sketching. It's still a work in progress, I need to organize the shelves and bring back in some writing
